Pain in Tucson

waspTucson made last Sunday’s New York Times Magazine, not once but twice, and both articles about pain.

The more intense the pain, the better the better the defense against further physical contacts. I once stepped on a yellow jacket wasp den. I ran as fast as I could to get back into the house, with a swarm following me all the way, stinging my face around the eyes and eyes. Some followed me into the house and manage to sting me. As long as I live, I will never forget it.
