Motorcycle-Santa-Clause-46Seen today – a motorcycle rider in total Santa garb.  (Didn’t have my camera so googled Santa on a motorcycle and found this website with 59 great photos of Santas on cycles1.  This was my favorite.)

Barack Obama,And did you know that Santa’s a Democrat?

Maybe Santa Claus should consider a blue suit this Christmas.

Forty-four percent of American voters think Santa is a Democrat, while just 28 percent think he’s a Republican, according to Public Policy Polling. Another 28 percent wisely abstained from judgment. 2

Nothing too exciting in my life right now, but this month my brother is in India, continuing to film a documentary on the Deborah Abel Dance Company, which he started in Boston (the documentary, not the dance company), and my daughter’s moving to Twin Falls, Idaho next month.  (More about Idaho later.)  This from my brother:

I’m in India right now. The dance company is Deborah Abel Dance3 and we’re sponsored by the Indian Arts Council (ICCR) while we’re here. Right now we’re in Jaipur — we have a performance in two days.

We’ve been in Delhi for the past however many days, staying at an arts colony called Sanskriti Kendra [their website4  has some beautiful photos] and we made some trips into very impoverished neighborhoods because we’ve connected with SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association5), a women’s cooperative union that sells directly to GAP and other sources — cutting out the usual middle man. Very moving. A group of girls that usually are sewing came out to Sanskriti for a dance workshop and got to enjoy the colony grounds and did some dance work and watched a bit of the piece that we’re performing.

I’m documenting it all and shooting lots of footage…I’ll try and keep you updated, but the WiFi setup isn’t always available. After Jaipur we go back to Delhi for another theater performance and then fly down to Chennai for the final one before flying home — I think on the 16th or so.

We’re back in New Delhi now…another performance in a couple of days. It’s colder here and the smog is really dense…I’m not even eager to go out and roam today because it’s so unpleasant. Had great experiences in Jaipur, however. After our Delhi performance we’re flying down to Chennai which is supposed to be a smaller city near the Bay of Bengal so the air will be clearer and temps warmer.

Not much Christmas action here…actually NONE. It is wedding season, though.

Gangnam Style

psy2I normally wouldn’t be following the latest dance craze, but when they mentioned on NPR that a video was made of Democrat John Lewis of Georgia dancing to Gangnam Style, I googled it.

Gangnam Style is a K-pop single by South Korean musician PSY.

First, check out a youtube with PSY himself, PSY – Gangnam Style (강남스타일) M/V6.  (The Net addresses for the videos are below, but one with the congressman is dreadful – don’t bother.)  A video of PSY performing his hit “Gangnam Style” at TNT’s “Christmas in Washington” special7 is kinda fun.  But this take-off on PSY’s video done in some Arab country (Saudi Arabia?  UAE?) is a kick!  (This text translates to Saudi version of the song Gangam Style 2013 “UAE trousers and Ffinelh”.  Ffinelh??)8

لنسخة السعودية من أغنية Gangam Style 2013″ أبو سروال وفنيلة ”

And a lot of flash mobs9 have been doing it, all over the world!  Stanford’s was nicely choreographed in sections.10   Then there’s the famous CPDRC Dancing Inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, a maximum security prison in Cebu, Philippines where the prisoners perform dance routines as part of their daily exercise and rehabilitation. 11

But there are others at Cornell, Virginia U, Berkley, U of Pennsylvania, Santa Fe College, and many more colleges and high schools, others in Madrid, Berlin, Sydney and Melbourne, Mexico City and Monterrey, Cagliari, Sardinia, Sofia, Bulgaria, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Bergen, Norway, Napoli, Italy, Sweden, Indonesia.  I could go on, but you get the idea.
